Recomendaciones para una ingesta adecuada de calcio y vitamina D en la población española


El calcio es un nutriente esencial, no producido por el organismo. Por lo tanto, su ingesta debe ser valorada en cada individuo en particular.

Existe una gran variación en la ingesta cálcica del ser humano (300-1.500 mg/d) y en las necesidades fisiológicas a través de la vida (crecimiento, pubertad, gestación, lactancia y menopausia). Para asegurar la recuperación del calcio de la dieta diaria, es necesario que el intestino se adapte simultáneamente a las modificaciones fisiológicas y a la dieta.

Por otro lado, la acción de la vitamina D es esencial para la homeostasis del calcio y del esqueleto, aumentando la absorción de calcio y fosfato a nivel intestinal. El déficit de vitamina D condicionaría una menor absorción intestinal del calcio, que podría verse magnificada si la dieta es deficitaria en este elemento.
