Primeros episodios psicóticos: una encrucijada clínica


El concepto de esquizofrenia como resultado de la interacción entre variables genéticas y ambientales se está reformulando a la luz de nuevos conceptos más operativos y pragmáticos.

La esquizofrenia como enfermedad se define como un reto personal, familiar, sanitario y social en un sentido amplio que genera múltiples necesidades no cubiertas, aunque hoy en día  puede ser abordado con mejores perspectivas y mayor optimismo.

El avance neurocientífico permite identificar elementos que llevan a niños y adolescentes a adquirir una condición de alto riesgo. Entre estos elementos el consumo de sustancias, muy en particular el cannabis, es clave, pudiendo determinar el inicio de la enfermedad y una complicada evolución.

Las intervenciones médicas y psicológicas han sido validadas y han ganado en eficacia, efectividad y eficiencia.

El objetivo de esta recomendación es revisar la evidencia disponible sobre la esquizofrenia a día de hoy, tanto desde una perspectiva clínica como neurobiológica y psicosocial.
