Nuevos conceptos en la valoración y manejo de la patología de la raíz aórtica


La raíz de aorta es la parte más proximal de la aorta. Se extiende desde el anillo aórtico hasta la unión sinotubular. Funciona como una estructura de soporte para la válvula aórtica, da origen a las arterias coronarias y se prolonga distalmente con la aorta ascendente.

La dilatación de la raíz de aorta puede ser secundaria  a enfermedades hereditarias o adquiridas. El avance en el conocimiento de las enfermedades genéticas de la aorta, el uso rutinario de las técnicas de imagen en la práctica clínica y las nuevas estrategias terapéuticas condicionan una nueva perspectiva en el manejo de esta patología.
