El acido hilaurónico es uno de los materiales más usados como implante tisular en el ámbito de la Medicina Estética, una  tendencia que tiende a aumentar.

A pesar de ser un material reabsorbible y con un mecanismo de degradación bien conocido, su uso no está exento de posibles complicaciones. Las complicaciones causadas por la inyección de HA pueden ser secundarias al procedimiento de implantación en sí o al material implantado.

La principal característica que diferencia la acido hialurónico del resto de los materiales reabsorbibles es la posibilidad de disponer de una enzima, la hialuronidasa, que permite revertir total o parcialmente los efectos adversos y complicaciones que puedan producirse.
